Eating, Playing, Kissing and Canoodling: Valentine’s in Kirkland

Do you feel the pressure of Cupid’s bow because you’ve been slow to hatch the perfect Valentine’s Day plan? Don’t worry about it. I’ve got you covered with a few ideas that are sure to put a smile on your sweetheart’s face—and ensure that Cupid’s arrow is aimed at his or her heart, not your head!

Indoor Options

  1. If a fancy, romantic dinner will do the trick for your ideal Valentine’s Day date, Ristorante Paradiso is the place to dine. Serving quintessential Italian cuisine with a wonderful wine list, this stellar restaurant offers an intimate atmosphere and a local vibe. But, it’s always packed—so be sure to make a reservation!
  2. When you’re ready for dessert (and, really, who isn’t?) be sure to make your way to Lady Yum for a scrumptious and delectable assortment of mouth-watering macarons and champagne.

  1. If you’re looking for a more casual night out with your sweetheart, why not keep it low key and have a few local beers or ciders and play a round or two of Mini Golf at Flatstick Pub? It’s always fun, and you can even bring your pooch—because I know who is really the love of your life, am I right?

It’s hard to choose favorites when there are so many gorgeous parks and beautiful water views in Kirkland but here are my “Top Three” because of their spectacular sunset views around Lake Washington.

Home Is Where the Christmas Tree Is.

Home is where the Christmas tree is!

Or where the Menorah is lit. Or the Kwanzaa candles burn bright.

This time of year I can’t help but to think about how awesome my “job” is.

Mom and I love working with our buyers and sellers all year ’round but this time of year is special!

mom and me

Walking through houses and writing contracts does not even begin to reveal the best part of being a Realtor. The reward is seeing all of you in your homes, with your family, new babies and friends enjoying the spirit of the season and a good Seahawks win!

When our clients post pictures of their houses decorated with lights on their “1st” Christmas tree on Facebook it makes me smile so big!

I have so much joy knowing that I played a critical role in helping my buyers find and purchase their home.

With much bad news in the media about ISIS and random acts of terror, I can’t help but to focus on the love that this season brings. This year more than ever my Christmas wish is: Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward Men.

Tired of multiple offers? Think about new construction instead.

Buyer’s are exhausted; Running around before and after work ( and taking off during lunch breaks) to be the first buyer to see a property gets old fast.

Let alone, pre-inspections, escalation clauses and waiving appraisals is not what most buyers have in mind when it comes to buying a home.

New construction may be your best solution to avoid the rush of the resale market. Builders have inventory that needs to move and for Buyers that translates to peace of mind, picking out your own color pallets and allowing the time needed for financing and inspections.

You can find me twice a week at Lexington Park in Bothell. There are 4 homes, move-in ready and all priced to sell $559,900-$669,000.

New prices on new construction. Come visit me at the model home.

Come check us out this weekend. Fri- Mon 11-6pm.

Happy Blue Friday and look for those Blue Angels!

It’s that awesome time of year again when the Blue Angels fly into town and perform two air shows over the water. If you are a local, you have probably planned ahead, taken the weekend off work and counting down since last summer.

This year seems especially cool because it just so happens that everyone’s favorite Quarterback, Russell Wilson, just resigned his contract with our beloved Seahawks! (can I getta woot woot?!!)

So celebrate all things in BLUE  on this Bluest of Friday’s in true Northwest style this weekend. Head to a spot on Lake Washington* and watch the Blue Angels dive over all of us spectators on the water! I’ll be out there in the middle yelling and whooping it up!

Relocating from another state? You need a plan.

Moving from one state to another can be an intimidating proposition. Here are a few tips to help make your move as painless as possible.

i heart kirkland

Research before you move. It’s important to understand the culture you’re joining. Do research online and find out about school systems, neighborhoods, parking, weather, public transportation, and laws that are native to that area. Post some questions on Facebook and ask your friends, or follow locals on Instagram (Ahem….@KirklandPeach).

Have a plan. There are a lot of steps to go through before you start packing the moving truck. Find housing before you leave, or at least know where you’ll stay while you look for a home. Never sign a lease on an apartment that you haven’t seen. If you can’t get there, find a REALTOR  to check for you. I take videos and do on site visits for all of my out of state clients. Have a job waiting for you, or if that’s not possible, know what you’ll do for money in the first few weeks of living there. Try to line up things like driver’s licenses, car insurance, renter’s insurance, and parking passes ahead of time as well.

Use good websites to get an idea of an area like crimemapping.com and walkscore.com.

Get involved. Meeting people in a new city can be daunting. Don’t expect the neighbors to knock your door down with a casserole when you arrive. Have you ever heard of the “Seattle Freeze?” Take the initiative. Try new things. Volunteer. Drink Coffee. Paddle board. Ride a bike. These are pretty popular around here and an easy way to meet people.

Coffee. It's a currency and around here and an easy conversation starter.

Mind your wallet. Seattle and the Greater Eastside is not cheap. Everything costs about the same as where you are from: food, insurance, clothes, rent. Taxes may be slightly cheaper and WA does not have a State Income tax. So in that regard, you may be one up!

This is a great place to live!

Simplicity Decor in Downtown Kirkland sells all sorts of fun stuff. These bags will help you fit in like a local!

Dr. Tacita Richardson

We talked about her clinic and how her unique vision for her clinic makes it a compelling choice for local Kirklandites who want to optimize their nutrition, overall health, mood & physical appearance.

Kirkland Peach: What is your Mission?

Dr. Tacita: To help people achieve a happy, healthy, vibrant life + receive medical treatment that is customized to them.Treating not suppressing symptoms is my goal. This can include diet recommendations and treating symptoms by analyzing the DNA. This is not treatment for the masses. This is highly individualized.

KP: What makes your practice unique?

Dr. Tacita: I practice a combination of primary care, esthetic skin care and brain fitness (fixing the “foggy brain” feeling, increasing memory, guidance for recovery from head injuries, and preventative suggestions to avoid Dementia later in life…).

clinic

KP: What are your favorite products?

Dr. Tacita: Vita Shots for hangover cures and mood boosters. Wouldn’t it be great if you could treat your symptoms instead of taking a sick day at work?

KP: What would my first appointment look like?

Dr. Tacita: We would start with a 75 min session of me just getting to know you. I want to find out what my clients need and what will help them feel at their optimum level in all areas! My patients need to be 18+ years of age. And some forms of insurance is accepted! ( *Dr. Tacita occasionally hosts a Ladies Night of Beauty Fun as well! )

KP: When you are not at the clinic, where might we find you?

Dr. Tacita: Cafe Zoca, Kirkland Crossfit or Homegrown.

DTK Spotlight on Asher Goods

You know the store…every time you pass by the glass garage door facade on Lake Street you can’t help but to smell the leather and cedar.

20141024_133449-1

The name, Asher, is partly derived from the Hebrew meaning for good or blessing.

The store exudes the warmth of a cabin and provokes a sturdy approach to mens fashion.

Walking inside you may get half of a nod from the stores “mascot” Dino. He lays under the table most days hardly doing his fair share of the chores around Asher Goods.

Dino at Asher Goods

Store Owners Jerry and Matt have put together a thoughtful collection of clothing and accessories to help keep the men of Kirkland looking rugged yet polished. Which – isn’t that the perfect Pacific Northwest blend?

Asher Goods opened here this summer after 2 years in Ballard and hit the Downtown Kirkland scene with a much needed manly inspired splash!

Q and A:

Kirkland Peach: What’s your favorite part of owning a store in Downtown Kirkland?

Jerry: The loyalty is fierce! Kirkland loves to support it’s own!

Kirkland Peach: What is your favorite product in the store?

Jerry: It’s hard to pick one! But typically anything made my Filsen.

Kirkland Peach: What is your favorite place to shop in Kirkland?

Jerry: When I’m not holding down the fort at Asher Goods you may find me at The Epicurean Edge.

If you haven’t yet, check them out and give Dino a little pat!!

So You’ve Decided to Sell…

You’re gonna put your house on the market. And it’s a big deal. It always is. People don’t just move for the fun of it.

Job change
Baby on the way
A new relationship has formed, or ended.
for sale

Whatever the reason, it is stressful. And getting as much equity out of your home as possible is very important.

I get it. I do! 10 years and 100’s of houses Sold later, I have heard a lot of fears about moving.

So why…WHY!… would you trust this massive life change and huge financial transaction to a random agent or friend who just got their license last week?
stick man q

At least ask the following 3 Questions:
1) How many homes have they sold?
2) Who will take the photographs?
3) How do they analyze the Buyer’s contracts?

The Real Estate agent you want:
1) Should possess experience
2) Hire professionals to do photographs (no pictures from the camera on the phone!)
3) Demonstrate knowledge in how to examine a contract to see if the buyer is truly qualified

The “Buy Nothing” Project

A simple act of giving left us both smiling and high fiving. I felt uplifted the whole day!

It had to go. There is this solid wood dresser in my condo…old but with keyhole detail and period charm. The drawers don’t open easily but it’s not garbage. I mean, literally it should not be garbage! It was a cool piece of furniture.

Considering the usual options….
– Craig’s List ( deal with flakey call backs and potential weirdos)
– Donate to Value Village or Salvation Army.
– Try to sell it at a garage sale.

And make, what? Like $35 bucks?

But there is a new alternative and it is building steam. It’s called “Buy Nothing Project.”
1390609_10202335464494226_439551988_n

“When people ask me what a Buy Nothing group really looks like, I tell them it’s a Facebook group that’ll give you a hands-on chance to take part in a social movement spreading across the country, enabling people and communities to commit episodic acts of daily good together[…]” ( buynothingproject.org)

It’s a gift community.

Posts range from fresh garden produce, to used shoes and toys, to leftover craft supplies.

I posted the dresser and within minutes had several requests from the 2000+ Buy Nothing Kirkland community FB page. 26 comments and a half day later someone was coming to pick it up.

She wanted to paint it magenta and was surprising her 6 year old daughter with the dresser so they could complete the project they had pinned together on Pinterest.

Try it! Next time you are about to sell something or are in search of something, consider your community and your neighbors first!
