Unkempt overgrown grass, too many cars in the driveway, a blue tarp on the deck…when it comes to home buying, what is a “deal breaker?”
Let’s face it, coming across not-so-great neighbors is a common occurrence. And when you are about to make one of the biggest decisions of your life, don’t you want to know what you are getting into…or next to?
For 10 years I’ve been shopping homes with 1st Time Home buyers and no one deal breaker is alike.
So what’s yours? What is absolutely so bad or completely annoying that it would prevent you from writing or closing on a house?
Checking out this cute house near Ravenna in Seattle…my buyers were sold on writing it up. Until we saw this….*
(* see the roof line of the house behind the first house? We could not see the proximity of the homes in the MLS pictures let alone the mossy fence)
But instead of telling horror stories. Here’s a story of success. Last Saturday, I knocked on doors with my 1st time home buyer. We met neighbors on all sides. And you know what? They were awesome.
The neighbor with the worrisome barky dog? Totally cool. And as soon as you call his name, Gunner, he becomes your best friend.
The horse pasture and chickens next door? They decorate their tractor every Christmas with lights. And they offered my buyer and me both, a dozen free range organic eggs.
And we learned all about the people up and down the street, the short cuts to trails and the best cofffee within commuting range to I405.
If your agent is not going the extra mile with you, take a walk with me. I’m not afraid to door knock and help you root out the deal breakers or deal makers!
